Our Themes

  • Democracy is one of the prominent themes of Freedom Forum. Freedom Forum has strong belief that democracy can be flourished only when there is people’s participation in every decision making process on the one hand and on the other the leadership of public agency should be transparent and accountable to the people.
  • The Forum works to ensure that the mass media is able to play its role as the Fourth Estate and that it enjoys the independence and freedom to disseminate information without any hindrance. The Forum considers Freedom of Expression and the people’s ‘right to information’ as fundamental trait of an equitable, prosperous and democratic society.

  • Freedom Forum, which has done a great deal whether that be in putting pressure for the adoption of RTI act or in promoting RTI culture or creating public awareness, is a pioneer organization in Right to Information (RTI) in Nepal. Right to Information is the backbone of democracy.
  • Freedom Forum has taken Open Data as one of the important thematic areas of work. FF believes that open data can contribute largely in promoting access to information through proactive disclosure of data which eventually complements the proactive disclosure requirements of RTI Act 2007 of Nepal. Being a partner of Open Nepal initiative, we are working independently on research and capacity building to promote access and use of open data.
  • Freedom Forum is working for transparency of national budget process through number of initiatives. Bi-annual Open Budget Survey (OBS) under the banner of International Budget Partnership (IBP), budget analysis and tracking, policy dialogues on budget transparency, public expenditure tracking survey, budget monitoring and capacity development of CSOs and media are the major initiatives under PFM.
