Freedom Forum is a prominent non-governmental organization in Nepal dedicated to institutionalizing democracy, protecting and promoting human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression, right to information, promoting audit accountability, open and accountable budget, public finance reforms, citizen engagement in public finance management and citizen participation in audit. Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

Information Sought with Legislature-Parliament Secretariat

freedom1 Forum has been working continuously to promote RTI regime in Nepal. As part of this, it has sought information with various public bodies to make them transparent. Lately, freedom1 Forum Chairman Taranath Dahal, on November 22, 2011sought information with the Legislature-Parliament Secretariat in line with the article 3 of the Right to Information Act 2007. The Parliament Secretariat is sought to provide various information including the photocopies of the new bills tabled in the parliament for discussion except 14 which are under consideration; other bills distributed to the parliamentarians for the discussion in the parliament; photocopies of the bills discussed in the parliament and those sent to the legislation committee for discussion among others. The registration number of the application is 1399.
