About Us

Freedom Forum is a prominent non-governmental organization in Nepal dedicated to institutionalizing democracy, protecting and promoting human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression, right to information, promoting audit accountability, open and accountable budget, public finance reforms, citizen engagement in public finance management and citizen participation in audit. Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

FF Executive Chief Dahal conferred on ‘Senior Journalist Honour-2022'

Freedom Forum congratulates Executive Chief Taranath Dahal for being conferred on the 'Senior Journalist Honour-2022' on May 7 in Kathmandu. President Bidya Devi Bhandari conferred the award carrying a purse of Rs 2,00,000 on the occasion of 7th National Journalism Day 2022. Dahal was awarded in recognition of his contribution to the protection and promotion of free press and free expression and information in the country. The award certificate states, ‘This award is being handed over to you for your contribution to promote national welfare through fair, professional, investigative, analytical and responsible journalism.’ The certificate undersigned by Secretary at Ministry of Communication and Information Technology Dr. Baikuntha Aryal further expects his contribution through journalism for overall development of the nation. Also the former president of Federation of Nepali Journalists and noted activist of freedom of expression and right to information, Dahal is involved in journalism for the last 34 years. He had actively involved in drafting and reviewing laws and policies related to media and journalists. Dahal has also been advocating for protection and promotion of human rights in online and offline space.
