About Us

Freedom Forum is a prominent non-governmental organization in Nepal dedicated to institutionalizing democracy, protecting and promoting human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression, right to information, promoting audit accountability, open and accountable budget, public finance reforms, citizen engagement in public finance management and citizen participation in audit. Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

Draft RTI Implementation Guideline handed over to chief Secretary

freedom1 Forum has recently developed the draft of Guidelines for Implementation of Right to Information-2012. The draft has been developed taking into consideration the following facts;
  • Recommendation of the first National Convention on Right to Information 2011 to  establish nodal agency at the office of Prime Minister for implementation of RTI law.
  • Recommendation of National Information Commission to Nepal government for the establishment of Nodal Agency. Which has been stated in former's annual report 2011/12.
  • The emphasis given on the establishment of Nodal Agency in the recently developed 5-Year Plan of Action by NIC for implementation of RTI &
  • Establishment of Nodal Agency being one of the priority agendas of Nepal government as stated in later's  Immediate Action Plan on Economic Development and Prosperity 2012 .
 The draft has been handed over to Chief Secretary of Nepal government for necessary action.
