About Us

Freedom Forum is a prominent non-governmental organization in Nepal dedicated to institutionalizing democracy, protecting and promoting human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression, right to information, promoting audit accountability, open and accountable budget, public finance reforms, citizen engagement in public finance management and citizen participation in audit. Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

Freedom Forum Chairperson Felicitated With Journalism Award

We are pleased to share the happiness that Chairman of the freedom1 Forum, Taranath Dahal, has been felicitated with the Chijkumar Bishnu Kumari Shrestha National Journalism Award on August 12, 2012. The Award was conferred on Dahal in recognition to his construction to democracy and freedom1 of expression through journalism. President of the Nepali Congress, Sushil Koirala gave away the Award at a function at Narayangadh, Chitwan. On the occasion, President Koriala lauded the role journalist Dahal played to uphold freedom1 of expression and right to information, fundamental tools to democratic system. FF Chairman Dahal has worked extensively for the freedom1 of expression and democracy through journalism for two decades.
