Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

91. Women's representation in Nepali media and their status during pandemic

Media is an important medium that raises the voice of the voiceless and advocates on various issues including gender equality in our society. It is equally imperative that media itself practices gender equality; not only in newsrooms but also in their contents. With this view, FF had launched an initiative to monitoring media contents through gender perspectives and accelerating debate and discussion on it since 2016 with support from Free Press Unlimited. Since then monitoring continues on main news stories of selected national broadsheets, online news portals, and province dailies. This 91st episode of podcast deals with FF's study on how inclusive are Nepali media in terms of gender, what proportion of women journalists are accreditated to DOI, and what is their status during COVID19 pandemic.
