Nepal government's 7-day ultimatum to social media for registration

The government of Nepal has given a week's ultimatum to the social media (networks) to get registered in Nepal. It has warned that those failing to register would be gradually rendered ineffective.

The Spokesperson of the government, Prithvi Subba Gurung, informed a news conference that the Cabinet meeting held on Aug 25 made a decision to  this effect.

About the decision, the Spokesperson on August 27 told media that in case the social media operators fail to adhere to the decision, the government will be forced to deactivate all social media platforms. The government's decision to deactivate would be enforced by the Nepal Telecommunications Authority.

The government claimed the decision for registration of social media was taken in line with court order.
