About Us

Freedom Forum is a prominent non-governmental organization in Nepal dedicated to institutionalizing democracy, protecting and promoting human rights, press freedom, freedom of expression, right to information, promoting audit accountability, open and accountable budget, public finance reforms, citizen engagement in public finance management and citizen participation in audit. Established in February 2005, the organization emerged in response to the political turmoil following Former King Gyanendra’s coup dated February 1, 2005, which imposed severe restrictions on media and democratic rights. A group of media professionals, legal experts, and academics founded Freedom Forum to safeguard Nepal’s hard-earned democratic freedoms during this repressive period.

Seminar on Education and Social Justice

freedom1 Forum organized a national seminar on Education and Social Justice in collaboration with the National Commission for UNESCO in the capital on May 28, 2012. Two working papers- Social Justice in Modern Education by Dr Ananda Poudel, Director of the Curriculum Development Centre and Social Justice in Oriental Education System by senior litterateur Dr Tulsi Bhattarai were presented in the seminar. At the program presided over by freedom1 Forum Chairperson Taranatha Dahal, Vice-Chairperson Hari Binod Adhikari shed light on the objectives and agenda of the seminar. He said the seminar was organized to discuss about the condition of social justice in Nepali education system. On the occasion, Professor Dr Govinda Raj Bhattarai and Professor Bidya Nath Koirala commented about the paper- Social Justice in Modern Education while Professor Dr Raja Ram Subedi made comments on the Social Justice in Oriental Education System. Participating in the seminar, Joint Secretary at the Education Ministry, Janardan Nepal, Head of the Department of Social Justice and Population, Keshav Adhikari, expert on social justice Dr Nakul Baniya, Joint Secretary and Controller of Examination, Sanothimi Dilli Rimal put forth their views about how social justice could be ensured in Nepali education system. The seminar was very fruitful to discuss the weaknesses and provisions in Nepal's educational programmes and system relating to the social justice. It has helped create debate in the educational system about social justice. freedom1 Forum would bring the report with recommendation later.
