freedom1 Forum held a consultative meeting on ‘Gender and Pro-Poor Perspective of Education Sector’s Budget’ in the capital city, Kathmandu, on August 20, 2013.
The programme was organized to garner suggestions on how the FF could conduct research effectively
on the gender and pro-poor perspective of education sector’s budget in Nepal.
The objective of the meeting was shed light by FF Program Manager Anirundra Neupane while the activities by FF Chairman Taranath Dahal.
Dr Ram Prasad Gyawali (from TU Central Department of Economics), Hari Lamsal (Education Department), Chandra Kumar Shrestha (Finance Ministry), Badri Bahadur Pathank (Education Department), Kalpana Ghimire (National Planning Commission), Durga Kandel (Department of Education), Professor Binaya Kumar Kushiyat (Central Department of Education, Economics, TU), Gopal Krishna Shrestha (CTEVT), Sudarshan Sigdel (journalist) spoke on various aspects of the budget planning in the education sector focusing the gender.
Most of the speakers, including Under Secretary Hari Lamsal and Professor Binaya Kumar Kushiyat, suggested the FF not to make the research broad but to zero in on a year’s budget in education sector and scrutinize it from gender lenses. The budget allocated to primary education could be taken for research, they said, adding, it would be vast to go through the budget allocated to entire education sector.
