May 3, or World Press Freedom Day, was proclaimed by United Nations General Assembly in December 1993 with recommendation of UNESCO General Conference. Since then, this day also marked as anniversary of Declaration of Windhoek is celebrated as WPFD.
This day is dedicated to principles of freedom of press and media rights. This year World Press Freedom Day is celebrated with the theme- A press for the Planet: Journalist in the face of environmental crisis.
